With a name taken as a vicious homage to the cult film Un Chien Andalou, it fits the razor-sharp sounds Pupil Slicer displays. The band lead by mastermind Katie Davies released one of 2021’s most exciting debut albums, ‘Mirrors’. Just like any good mathcore album, this London trio’s debut full-length is disjointed, dissonant, and above all, enveloping. It’s actually easy to draw comparisons to genre classics like ‘Calculating Infinity’ and Jane Doe, but there’s something deeper in ‘Mirrors’. With eerie atmospherics and brutal severity, Pupil Slicer is something of a stunning meditation on chaos and clarity.
